Pentecostalism in Newfoundland was birthed in 1912 and was rooted in the Bethesda Mission in St. John’s through the work of Alice B. Garrigus . The Pentecostal Assemblies of Newfoundland, while a separate independent denomination, is affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada and the Assemblies of God in the USA. |

In the spring of 1925 special meetings were held in the Orange Lodge in Port de Grave and within weeks many residents had been converted along with receiving the gift of speaking in tongues. The movement took hold so fast the within a year a church known as” the Mission” along with a parsonage had been built on opposites sides of the pond and a Miss Elsie Pike became the first pastor. In 1955 a new three-room school was built and a new church was built in 1963, both in Ship Cove. |
