In 1813 Mr. Vey along with the original  27 members built the first of two (Wesleyan-United) churches in Port de Grave and it was known as the Meeting House. It was also the first Protestant church built in Port de Grave. In 1815 Newfoundland became a Methodist district and Port de grave became one of six stations. As the Wesleyan church continued to thrive a Sunday School building was added in 1816 and a day school in 1846.  In 1873 a new church and school was built to service the congregation. The Methodist movement then became a part of the United Church in 1925. Locally Amy Morgan became a United Church of Canada minister and  Rev. Lloyd Morgan , was bestowed the title of Doctor of Divinity before he died.
