My son-in-law, Jeffrey Andrews of Maine, is
the descendant. I am the family genealogist For his family, I am researching
the Andrews of Port de Graves. Anyone interested can visit this tree on
Ancestry. If they do not have a membership, I can “invite” them on to the
site if they give me their e-mail address. So far I have identified: Jeff’s great grandfather, Robert Andrews, born 8 Sep 1882, Port de Graves; emigrated to Maine and married Elizabeth Strang; died 26 Jul 1954 in Brewer, Maine. His father was George Andrews (1848-1916) who married Mary Jane Anthony c 1877 (I don’t have further info on Mary Jane). George’s father; Robert Andrews b c 1810 married Fanny Daw. That is about it yet. I would love to get more information on any of these families. Currently I get what I can glean from the Newfoundland Grand Banks website. I am a volunteer librarian at the Jupiter, FL Family History Center, and will be ordering microfilms to verify what I can. Happy Hunting Everyone…. mjl_ahl@comcast.net |

I am trying to find information on my Great
Grandmother Naomi Butler from Burnt Head Cupids. She was born about 1857 and
she firstly married John Bussy 8 Nov 1877 and this is shown in Brigus
Methodist Marriages 1813-1892--Volume 36A. Witnesses to the marriage were
Albert Noseworthy, Alfred LeDrow, Elizabeth LeDrow and Rachael Butler. I
wonder if any of these ladies might be sisters. She married my Great Grandfather Charles Edwin Bragg around 1883 but I have no idea where this occurred. I have no Idea as to who her parents were but I was told by my late deceased Aunt, that my Grandfather had cousins in Cupids having surnames of Butler and Dawe and possibly LeDrew. Any information would be appreciated. drk57@bellaliant.net |

|
Hello there: My name is Mark Allan Delaney. I'm from Centerville, Massachusetts. I'm 54 years old, married with two grown children. I'm somewhat embarrassed to say as a police detective, I really don't know that much about my ancestral (Delaney) family name/history other than these facts: My grandfather, Thomas William Delaney was born I believe in Pooch cove, Newfoundland around 1910. My grandmother, Alma Beatrice Noseworthy Delaney was born I believe in Salmon cove, Newfoundland around 1910(+). Both of them immigrated to Chelsea, Ma. as teens or young adults where they soon married and raised three sons. Norman, Chester and the youngest being my father, Allan Maxwell Delaney who was born in 1927, Chelsea, Ma. As a young child growing up, all I really knew of my grandparents family history was they both came from Newfoundland. Both of Protestant descent. I know nothing to say the least of who my great grandparents are. I'd like to know the origin/lineage of the Newfoundland Delaney's, and whether I'm descended from Norman or from Irish roots. mcdelaney@comcast.net Sincerely, Mark A. | I have been researching a Robert Martin who was born circa 1833, It is believed by some other researchers of this line that he came from either Port de Grave or Harbour Grace. Robert was a broom maker in St. John’s and he died at age 80 on 13 Aug 1913 in his home on Pilot’s Hill in St. John’s. Robert appears to have married an Emma or Eliza or Emma Eliza and then an Emily (maiden name unknown). Perhaps Emma Eliza and Emily are one and the same person. Children of Robert as known to date are Mary Jane who married William Ivey, Eliza who married Henry Thomas Holwell, Jessie who married Francis Cranford, Ronald Chesley who is assumed to have married a Florence unknown of Pouch Cove, and finally a son Eric Martin. Children Florence Mabel, Eric and Violet May all died as infants. I am aware of John Thomas Martin of Port de Grave who married Rebecca Kennedy and this is the family of another posting at this site. I have extensive research on the Martins of Harbour Grace who also have ties to the Port au Port, Channel/Port aux Basques, Leading Tickles and Lewisporte. There are very few places where Robert could fit in my Harbour Grace research. Additionally I have quite a bit on the Martins of St. John’s and adjacent Torbay. If anyone has information on the Martins of Port de Grave I would be very interested in sharing/comparing notes. Geoff Martin, Calgary geoffgmartin@shaw.ca | |||||||||||||||||||

My grandmother was Leah Morgan ...
born either Hibb's Hole or thereabouts..she had a sister Rachel
and a brother Reuben ..her father was Richard Morgan who was
married to an English lady nammed Emma or Elizabeth
[Lear?????}.. Richard married a second time to a native lady but
we are descended from the first marriage..my grandmother could
count back 9 generations but I was too young to understand..my
own mother was ashamed of the fact that Leah read teacups with
great accuracy and was known as the "witch" in her home town of
Brigus..where she went when she [Leah] married William
Metcalfe...In Gerald Andrews book about the Heritage of Port de
grave, he says he doesn't know the difference between RED and
BLACK Morgans. Richard Morgan was a sea
captain, Leah was on board as cook...or so I was told. I
was told this by my mother so if any one wants to know e-mail me

I am looking for information about my great grandmother, Caroline Snow.
She was born February 1836 in Port de Grave. She died 27 July 1922 in
Bailey's Point, Shoal Brook, Bonne Bay, NL and is buried in the newer
Anglican cemetery in Woody Point, Bonne Bay. She was married to Joseph
Bailey who was born about 1832 in Topsail. The parish record show that
when they married on 19 September 1857, he was identified as a bachelor
from Catalina. I don't know anything about that. He too is buried in
Woody Point but in the old Anglican cemetery on the waterfront. I would
appreciate any information as I know nothing of their parents or
siblings or anything of their families before they relocated to Bonne
Bay.

Hello – I posted several years ago (with email Nokesville@starband) and have changed email addresses – as well as found additional information. I’m still stuck and could use some help. I still do not know who Rebecca Kennedy’s father is (her sibs: Samuel, Elizabeth, and Patience Kennedy). I’m guessing he would have been born around 1825. I have her husband’s name – John Thomas Martin. I’ve found them on census records. I still do not know who John Thomas Martin’s father is. I was contacted at one time by cousins who still live in the family home in Port de Grave but I have misplaced their email – I was busy finishing my MBA and lost track of genealogy research. My grt. grandmother was Patience Bishop born
about 1832/3 ? at Coley's Point. She married John Richards Dec. 2, 1852 @
Bareneed. John was of Bareneed, Patience of Coley's Point. Witt. to the
marriage were. Emma Roberts, Elizabeth Bishop, Isaac Richards and William
Batten. I have never found the Bap. for Patience despite spending hours at
the Archives in St. John's. Her parents remain a mystery to me, although the
name "Patience Bishop" certainly appears frequently in the local records
before her birth in 1832/3. I have her death certificate---she died April
29, 1904 in Burnt Head, aged 71 years.. This too is strange as I cannot find
any of her children there at the time of her death, although Burnt Head
abounds with Bishops and Richards. I would love to make contact with someone

Hello – I’m trying to trace my husband’s family history and have become quite stuck. His Great Grandmother (we don’t know her first name) was a Kennedy who was born in Hibb’s Hole about 1850 and she married a MARTIN (we don’t know his first name but it could be John). We know her brother’s name was Samuel who was also born in Hibb’s Hole September 1847. His wife died before 1911 (census). He had two sons. Robert J was the youngest and died at the age of 25 in the Boston area working with his cousins (my husband’s grandfather) doing iron work at a building site. news item. Samuel’s other son was Charles H. born July 1885. Charles married Diana before 1911 (they lived with Samuel at the time of the 1911 census) she was born in Pick Eyes in 1891. Their children were Susannah b. Dec 1911, Samuel b. Feb 1918, Malcolm b. May 1920, Leslie b. 1927, and Lewis b. 1930. I’m trying to find two things: First I would like to find information on Samuel’s sister who married a Martin. Her first name would be a blessing. Second, we would love to find some distant cousins. Thanks – Beverly Martin cunoregon@yahoo.com QUERY UPDATE-CLICK HERE |
