The Port de grave boat basin is a modern port complex that caters to 100-120 vessels and is the main tourist stop in the community. Its outer wall was created from thousands of tons of massive rocks that was placed in conjunction with the nature flow of the harbour islands This man made barrier extends from the area of the former salt fish plant of George Dawe Ltd., through the islands right up to Hussey’s Cove. The port is governed by the Harbour Authority which was formed in 1996. The office of the Harbour Authority is housed in the Morgan & Hawe Memorial Building which is situated on Dawe’s Hill and overlooks the harbour. Visitors to Port de Grave harbour can obtain more information on the greater community of Port de Grave by visiting the Harbour Authority building. The boat basin have been a major tourist attraction in the last few years, first during the Islendingur visit in 2000 and now every year for the Boat Lighting Festivities at Christmas. |
